RAIPUR: Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, has received a notice of Rs. 850 crore from the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS) over her husband's claims that "traditional" remedies cured her Stage 4 cancer.
The notice, served by CCS convenor Dr. Kuldeep Solanki, alleges that these assertions have misled patients into abandoning allopathic treatments, endangering lives.
Dr. Solanki has demanded evidence for such statements within a week. He warned that legal action would be taken otherwise. He further added that in order to dispel such information, Mrs. Sidhu should prove her husband's statements or retract them publicly.
The controversy revolves around Sidhu's November 21 media conference in which he reported on his wife's road to recovery, giving credit to the changes in her diet and eradication of sugar, refined flour, and aerated drinks in addition to the use of turmeric and neem. Medical practitioners have criticized Sidhu's utterances equating cancer with inflammation and suggesting that dietary changes will starve the cancer cells.
The director of the Tata Memorial Hospital, Dr. C. S. Pramesh, and 262 other oncologists dismiss Sidhu's allegations by stating that they had no authentic scientific evidence. Sidhu stated on his social media post that his wife received treatment with doctors under close supervision and appreciated the doctors.
The civic organization is adamant that any distortion must be corrected in order to protect patient health as the discussion heats up.
