CHHATTISGARH: Naxals detonated a powerful improvised explosive device weighing 60 to 70 kg in a deadly attack on security forces in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Monday.

daeDThe blast took place near Ambeli village, about 70 km from Bijapur, when personnel from the District Reserve Guard and Bastar Fighters were returning from an anti-Naxalite operation. The victims including four DRG members, four Bastar Fighters, and their driver were killed instantly.

It is believed that the IED had been planted earlier on the security forces' route. The IED detonated at around 2:15 pm when the security personnel were traveling in their Scorpio after the completion of the three-day-long anti-Naxalite operation in Bastar. Five Naxals and one head constable from DRG were killed in the operation. The attack came when the patrolling teams were returning to their respective districts after the operation.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to find out who carried out this attack. The forensic experts on the site confirmed that the IED was an old one as it was buried deep down, and grass has started growing over it. This is indicative that the device had been planted long in advance, making this a well-coordinated and calculated attack by the Left-Wing extremists.
