NEW DELHI: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on Tuesday, announced that the National Testing Agency will conduct entrance exams into higher education institutions exclusively as against recruitment examinations from 2025 onwards. In a major shift in mandate, the agency will abide by the government's dream of modernizing the examination system.

Pradhan further added that the future entrance exams would be computer-adaptive and technology-driven. He said that he is in discussion with the Health Ministry regarding the mode of conducting the NEET-UG, whether pen-paper or online. He also clarified that the CUET-UG would remain an annual examination.

Discussing details of the reform measures, the Minister revealed restructuring of the NTA in 2025, in which the organization will add 10 new positions to itself. The move will add a new dimension to its services so that the operations will not be marred with complexities.

The announcement comes amidst public outcry over recent controversies surrounding exams, including an alleged leak of the NEET-UG paper and cancellation of various exams due to suspected leaks and technical issues. These incidents highlighted the need for enhanced security and reliability in the examination process.

With that, Pradhan guaranteed that the government is actually looking to address these issues by implementing reforms to regain its people's trust and change things for the better in this testing ecosystem. With all this, the NTA expects to maintain the integrity of entrance examinations and provide the nation with a fair testing ground for aspirants.
