PM Modi, President Murmu Extend Christmas Greetings To Nation

Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu extended Christmas greetings while Goa celebrated with festive decorations and a lively atmosphere marking the New Year season for tourists.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Christmas greetings to the nation on Wednesday. In a post on X, PM Modi also shared highlights from a Christmas program held by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI).

"Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. May the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ show everyone the path of peace and prosperity," PM Modi's X post stated. "Here are the highlights from the Christmas programme at CBCI," he stated while showing a video tour.

President Droupadi Murmu also extended Christmas wishes to the nation, writing, “Merry Christmas to all! This special day reminds us of Jesus Christ’s timeless teachings of love, kindness, and compassion."

“On this joyous occasion, let us strive to spread happiness, promote equality, and foster the spirit of unity in the society," she added.

In Goa, people flocked in huge numbers during midnight across churches to mark the start of Christmas celebrations on Wednesday, with cities, markets, and homes adorned in festive decorations. Thousands of devotees gathered at churches across the coastal state from midnight to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

They prayed and sang carols in praise of Jesus Christ. People adorned their homes and businesses with bright, colorful lights and displayed beautifully crafted cribs, depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.

Streets and beaches in many parts of Goa, which has nearly 30 percent Christian population, were filled with residents and tourists until the early hours of Wednesday as they exchanged greetings and took part in the celebrations. The festival also marked the start of the New Year season for tourists.
