Chennai: The recently launched PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is being hailed as a game-changer for Indian agriculture, with the Tamil Nadu BJP declaring it a revolutionary step that will benefit 1.7 crore farmers and impact over 20 crore rural Indians.

Addressing the media, Tamil Nadu BJP senior leader and spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad called the scheme a “pioneering agricultural revitalisation initiative” and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to transform India’s farm sector. The Union Cabinet approved the scheme with an annual budget allocation of ₹24,000 crore for six years, beginning with the 2025-26 Union Budget. It is designed to uplift farming communities and make India a leader in sustainable and modern agriculture.

One of the key features of the scheme is its integrated approach, which aims to converge 36 existing agricultural schemes into one unified programme. It will be rolled out across 100 targeted districts, identified based on low crop productivity, moderate crop density, and poor credit access.

The scheme promotes:

  • Crop diversification

  • Sustainable farming practices

  • Post-harvest storage solutions

  • Better irrigation facilities

  • Adoption of modern farming technologies

These efforts aim to bridge the gap between actual and potential productivity, thereby improving farmer incomes and overall quality of life in rural areas. Prasad described the scheme as a mission, not just a policy. “It is a shining example of the Prime Minister’s commitment to farmers and a key step towards making India a self-reliant and developed nation by 2047,” he said.

With its focus on innovation, strategic planning, and long-term impact, the Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is expected to become a cornerstone in India’s agricultural transformation, helping the nation emerge as a global leader in sustainable farming.
