Raipur Pastor Beaten Up By Mob In Police Station On Suspicion of Religious Conversion

Raipur: A pastor was beaten up by an angry mob belonging to the right-wing in a police station in Raipur following complaints of forced religious conversion. A heated argument followed soon after between the members of the right-wing and those who had joined the pastor to the police station after they were called in by the police for questioning.

The incident had reportedly taken place in Raipur's Purani Basti police station. According to sources, several allegations were made against the pastor on the grounds of forced religious conversion that was being carried out in the Bhatagaon area.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police had called in the pastor for questioning. A crowd of local right-wing Hindutva leaders arrived at the police station soon after.

The police station was gheraoed by the angry complainants who demanded action to be taken against those involved in such conversion.

A heated soon followed after the pastor along with some members of the Christian community reached the police station after they were called in for questioning.

The situation escalated after the pastor was taken to the station-in-charge's room. As per officials, the pastor was then thrashed by the mob. A video has been making rounds that show the mob hitting the Christian priest with slippers and shoes.

In other news, the trailer of the upcoming film 'The Conversion' was released back in August. The film explores the dilemma of religious conversions that happen during love marriages in India.

Talking about the film, director Vinod Tiwari said: "We have been waiting for this moment, not only because the film is really important to me but also because this subject will bring social awareness amongst today's youth."
