Silchar, July 23: In all, 47 retired principals, teachers and employees of different deficit colleges, now provincialized, are yet to get their gratuity. Some of them retired way back in 1999 and in between till 2011, there has been hoping against hope for these college employees without any ray of immediate settlement. According to the official record vide DHE letter no. G(A) Gratuity, 1/2008/54 dated August 17, 2016, some of these principals and teachers have put in more than three decades of services.
As a rule, the gratuity is to be paid within a year or two of the retirement of the employees. But, in the case of these unfortute principals, teachers and menial staff, no justice has been done. They have been pursuing their cases for years in vain. The colleges in question are in Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys. The record indicates, of them 8 are from Barak and that too of one college, Cachar College. 39 others are from Brahmaputra Valley.
Most unfortute, one lecturer of Moran College, Dasarath Chaurasia, expired in 1998 while 4 employees including a Grade IV staff, rayan Prasad Sinha, Hashi Gopal Das, Jitendra Kumar Biswas and Lochan Mani Dusad of Cachar College expired between 2000 and 2002. Still sad, the family members of the deceased employees have been clamouring for the release of gratuity through the principal of the college in view of their acute fincial distress. So long, there has been no favourable response to the cases of these principals, teachers and employees.
With the change of government at Dispur, the cases of these employees as the DHE letter quoted above shows are under active consideration. It is attached with the statement of sanction of gratuity during the year 2015-2016 to the retired and expired employees. It is going to be nearly one year of issuing the letter, but the confirmatory letter from the DHE to respective colleges is yet to be received. Some of these employees have thought it wise to take the help of the media to highlight their grievances with the expectation of getting justice without further delay.
