MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was allegedly stabbed six times by an intruder who broke into his Mumbai home in the early hours of January 16, around 2:30 am.

The actor is currently recovering after undergoing surgery at Lilavati Hospital, where he is reported to be out of danger.

Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, stated that Saif underwent a 2.5-hour neurosurgery earlier this morning. A plastic surgery procedure is still ongoing, and further updates on his condition are awaited.

An FIR has been lodged at Bandra Police Station against the unidentified intruder. According to the police, the attacker broke into Saif's house while he was asleep. A confrontation ensued, during which the intruder stabbed Saif six times before fleeing the scene. Two of the stab wounds, located near the spine, are reportedly deep, as confirmed by the hospital.

The police have interrogated three attendants working at Saif's residence, while the Mumbai Crime Branch has launched a parallel investigation. Seven teams have been formed to locate the suspect, with one team analyzing CCTV footage, three teams searching across Mumbai, and another dispatched outside the city.

Saif Ali Khan’s team issued an official statement confirming the incident, saying, "There was an attempted burglary at Mr. Saif Ali Khan's residence. He is currently in the hospital undergoing surgery. We request the media and fans to be patient, as this is a police matter. Updates will be shared as necessary."

A similar statement was released by Kareena Kapoor Khan’s team, reassuring that the rest of the family is safe. It read, "An attempted burglary occurred at Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan's residence last night. Saif sustained an arm injury and is in the hospital for treatment. The rest of the family is doing fine. We urge everyone to avoid speculation as the police continue their investigation. Thank you for your concern."

Dr. Niraj Uttamani further detailed that Saif was brought to Lilavati Hospital around 3:30 am, following the attack. He was treated by a team of specialists, including neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain, and anesthesiologist Dr. Nisha Gandhi.

Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their sons had recently returned to Mumbai after celebrating the New Year holidays in Switzerland.
