Smriti Irani digs at Rahul Gandhi for contesting from Wayanad

Guwahati: Union Minister Smriti Irani hit out at Congress President Rahul Gandhi as he has chosen a second seat of Wayanad apart from his traditional stronghold Amethi to contest in the Lok Sabha elections. In her latest jibe at Gandhi, Smriti Irani targeted Gandhi for missing in Amethi.

Addressing a public rally in Amethi, Irani said that the 2019 election is of Amethi's freedom. She asked to free the people themselves from the shackles of a missing MP.

Gandhi has filed his nomination papers from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency seat in Kerala and will also file his nomination papers for Amethi Lok Sabha constituency on April 10. Irani will contest against Gandhi from Amethi. Gandhi had defeated Irani in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in 2014.

Addressing the rally she said that the election of 2019 is the election which will decide the future of the children. "It is the election of our village, the election of Indians who pride themselves on India," said Irani who was on a two-day visit to Amethi as part of her election campaign.

Irani while digging at Gandhi's nomination from Wyanad said that she wants to warn Wayanad saying that if the people want to see Rahul Gandhi's capabilities as an MP then they can go to the state of Amethi. She further said that the person who has been betraying Amethi for the last 15 years has now come to cheat the people of Wayanad.

Irani also accused the Congress President of deserting Amethi which sent him to the Lok Sabha for three terms. She also said that Amethi will never forget the insult and betrayal that Gandhi has done to the people of the constituency as this is a big sign that a person who has enjoyed power piggybacking on Amethi for 15 years has left the constituency and has filed nomination papers for some other constituency.

Amethi will go for polls on May 6 in the fifth phase of the general elections and Uttar Pradesh will be voting in all the seven phases of the election scheduled to be held from April 11 to May 19 the counting of which will be held on May 23.
