New Delhi: During a special session on counter-terror operations, Shah recounted the controversial incident from 19 September 2008, when two Indian Mujahideen terrorists were killed in a police raid at Batla House in Delhi's Jamia Nagar. Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of the Delhi Police lost his life during the gunfight.
Shah said he was shocked to learn that Sonia Gandhi reportedly cried following the encounter. “I was watching Salman Khurshid on television. He was in tears after meeting Sonia Gandhi. He said she was crying over the Batla House encounter. If she had to cry, she should have wept for Shaheed Mohan Sharma, not the terrorists,” Shah told the Lok Sabha.
The Home Minister accused the Congress of having a “soft corner” for terrorists and claimed the party lacked the moral ground to question the government on national security.
He made the remarks during a broader debate on Operation Sindoor, a recent anti-terror mission. Shah also confirmed that three militants involved in the Pahalgam terror attack had been neutralised in Operation Mahadev.
In a further jab at the Opposition, Shah criticised Congress MP P Chidambaram for questioning whether the Pahalgam attackers had Pakistani links. “Why try to protect Pakistan? When Congress leaders say such things, it looks like they are giving Pakistan a clean chit,” he added.
The fiery speech has reignited debates around national security, counter-terror policies, and the political sensitivities surrounding past incidents like Batla House.
