NEW DELHI: Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been one of the most prominent prime ministers that the country of India has seen. And to make his memories permanent, a star has been named after the great political leader and visionary. He was also one of the recipients of the Bharat Ratna, the highest honour given out by the country.

This announcement came out on the occasion of the 98th birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25, 2022. His birth anniversary is celebrated as the 'Good Governance Day' across the country of India. He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Pary, the same party as the current government under Narendra Modi. This year, the head of the Aurangabad unit of the party, Shirish Boralkar made the announcement regarding the naming of the star.

"The star with the coordinates 14 05 25.3 -60 28 51.9 has been registered in the International Space Registry on December 25, 2022. The star gets the name Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. Registration Number CX16408US," said the International Space Registry certificate.

The distance of the mentioned star from Earth is 392.01 light years. It is the second closest star to the Earth, Sun being the closest one.

Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the External Affairs Minister for the Government of India under Muraji Desai as Prime Minister from 1977 to 1979. He served as the Prime Minister of India from May 1996 to June in the same year and from March 1998 to May 2004. He passed away after a prolonged illness on August 16, 2018.

He was instrumental in making the dream of India being a major power in world politics, a reality. Some of his landmark initiatives include the Golden Quadrilateral Project to improve connectivity across the nation and Operation Smiling Buddha which established India as a nuclear state.
