Student proposes Rahul Gandhi’s name in Guinness World record for losing 27 elections

NEW DELHI: A student from Madhya Pradesh’s Hoshangabad has proposed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s name for the Guinness Book of World Records for losing a record 27 elections, say reports.

Vishal Diwan, an engineering student has approached Guinness World record in this regard. Rahul Gandhi, under whose leadership the party was reduced to 52 out of 542 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections, had resigned from the top post during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, just two days after the poll results on May 25, 2019.

However, the Congress leaders unanimously rejected his offer to step down from the post. But Rahul Gandhi remained adamant and quit the party president’s post in late July.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lead a protest rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) at Veterinary Playground in Khanapara, Guwahati in December last year spoke about his learning experiences in Assam and how he was influenced by the people and culture of the state.

He reiterated the importance of the Assam Accord which is significant in maintaining peace and order in the state. According to the Assam Accord of 1985, foreigners entering Assam, irrespective of their religion or language, after 24th of March 1971, do not qualify for citizenship. The Accord was the culmination point of the Assam Movement of Assam Agitation that saw the participation of people from all walks of life who wanted an “Infiltration Free Assam.” The Accord signed between the central and state authorities called for ‘detention, disenfranchisement and deportation’ of all foreigners.

Rahul Gandhi had also invited a lot of criticism for making comments on rape. He had refused to apologise over his “rape in India” remark during an election rally in Jharkhand and hit out at the government saying this was “merely an excuse” for them to divert attention from the main issue.

Speaking to the media in Parliament, Rahul Gandhi had said, “All I said was that the Prime Minister keeps talking about ‘Make in India’, but when we open newspapers, all we read is about rapes across India. There are reports of rapes from every BJP-ruled state.”
