Student sends letter to PM, urging religious trusts donation to fight COVID-19

Uttarakhand: A class 10 student from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, has written a letter to Prime Minster Narendra Modi suggesting that the country’s all religious trusts should donate their 80 per cent wealth to the war against the COVID-19 pandemic. Abhinav Kumar Sharma, a student of the Saint Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun, has sent the letter to the PM on March 26 via e-mail. In the letter, 15-year-old Abhinav said, “This health emergency will surely lead to a financial emergency due to which labourers would be on the verge of starvation. I, therefore, request you to kindly make it mandatory for all religious trusts, irrespective of their religion, to donate 80% amount of 'God's wealth' to the country by giving this to the PM relief fund.” The student also expressed apprehension that the country’s unemployment may rise due to the on-going 21-day-long nationwide lock-down, announced by Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday last. "Number of people would be on the verge of starvation. Later, this lockdown will lead to scarcity of government funds and affect the lower middle class and middle class badly," said he, adding that in this crucial time the country’s religious trusts can contribute a lot to the nation.
