BENGALURU: In a peculiar incident, the students of Bhagat Pre-University College in Haveri, were reportedly made to wear cardboard boxes during exam to prevent them from cheating.

The incident came into light when a picture of it become viral on social media. The picture was posted by Sateesh Herur, a member of the college management in his Facebook account.

In the picture, the students were seen writing papers as part of their mid-term exams wearing cartons. Invigilators can also be seen in the visuals, monitoring the students.

The institute is now receiving criticism on social media, after the picture got viral, with many questioning if the measure could really be a deterrent.

Karnataka Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, on Friday tweeted his reaction saying, the action is totally ‘unacceptable’. Many on social media echoed the views of the state education minister.

College head MB Satish, justifying the action stated that, a similar method was used in a college in Bihar to curb cheating, which has been widely appreciated on social media.

Many students had allegedly cheated during last year’s exams and even after repeated warnings, they continued to cheat. In order to stop this, the management introduced this hilarious idea.

As confirmed by Deputy Director of Public Instruction Department, SS Piraje, the state government has issued an immediate notice to the college and sought an explanation as to why the students were made to wear cardboard boxes.
