Srinagar: Three suspected Pakistani terrorists believed to be involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives earlier this year, have been killed in a joint security operation near Mount Mahadev, sources revealed on Sunday.
Acting swiftly on intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF launched ‘Operation Mahadev’, surrounding the area and engaging the suspects in a brief gunfight.
All three militants were neutralised during the exchange, marking a significant breakthrough in the months-long hunt for those behind the April 2025 Pahalgam massacre.
According to security sources, the operation was triggered after suspicious radio communication was intercepted two days prior in the Dachigam forest area. The intelligence was further corroborated by local nomadic communities, who reported unfamiliar movement in the region.
The operation is being hailed as a major counterterrorism success, coming over three months after the Pahalgam attack shocked the nation and heightened security concerns across Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials have yet to confirm the identities of the slain terrorists, but initial reports suggest they were foreign nationals, likely affiliated with a Pakistan-based terror outfit.
Security has been heightened in the surrounding areas, and search operations are ongoing to ensure no further threats remain.
