Trinamool Congress Seeks Permission Again To Hold Rally In Tripura After Police Denied Twice

AGARTALA: The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday again sought permission from police to hold a rally on September 22nd in city which will led by TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Earlier, TMC announced to defer the rally of its general secretary Abhishek Banerjee at Agartala after Tripura Police purportedly declined them permission to hold the rally on September 16 saying police would be busy maintaining law and order since Biswakarma Puja would be observed in the next day.

Former MLA and current leader of TMC in Tripura Subal Bhowmick has written a letter of the SDPO Sadar and Officer-in Charge of West Agartala Police station.

"We are in receipt of your captioned reply dated 13 September. We have been informed by your office that our proposed rally which was scheduled to be held on 15 September at 2:00 pm, has been denied permission in light of a prior permission granted to another political party on the self-same date and time Furthermore, permission has been denied for 16 September, as well, on grounds of law and order commitment of police in view of Vishwakarma Puja falling on 17 September".

"Thus, it is appalling that permission is denied on grounds of "law and order commitments, as though an ominous and/or grave situation would prevail on 17 September, making it so difficult for your esteemed office to provide security and/or other necessary permission on the previous day", the letter reads.

It also informed, "Since we have been informed that other political parties are being provided requisite permission to conduct their political activities, we hope that a fairer sense of judgment would prevail in our favour in the future. As such, we are hereby requesting permission to conduct a rally/procession on 22 September at 2:00 pm, after ensuring that such date does not clash with any other occasion".

Speaking to reporters here this afternoon, TMC Bengal general secretary Kunal Ghosh said, "If we are stopped again by these conspiracies, we shall knock the doors of the court".
