
Ranchi: In a tragic incident, a cable car collision took place at Trikut hills in Deoghar district in Jharkhand on April 10 and it has led to the death of at least two people with several others getting injured.
As per reports, many people are still stuck in the carriages as a result of which a rescue operation was underway with the help of two Indian Air Force helicopters.
An official has said that the exact reason behind this accident is yet to be discovered but has added that the incident appears to have been caused by a technical swag.
According to media reports, the ropeway manager along with other employees had vanished from the spot after the incident unraveled and two people who had jumped off from the cable car in desperation were left seriously injured.
Manjunath Bhajantri, the Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar, said that a team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was dispatched to the spot to carry out the rescue operation and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was also helping in the operation.
The Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar added that the local villagers have also provided a helping hand in the rescue efforts.
The DC along with the Superintendent of Police Subhash Chandra are keeping a track of the rescue operation from the spot.
Manjunath Bhajantri also appealed to the people to refrain from spreading false rumors and asserted that the situation is completely under control. He further went on to inform that some people are still stuck in the cable cars in the ropeway, and they are being rescued.
Godda MP Nishikant Dubey said that he had informed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh and requested for deployment of NDRF teams.
He later thanked the Union Home Minister for immediately taking cognisance of the matter.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Tourism says that the Trikut ropeway, which is located close to the Baba Baidyanath Temple, happens to be the highest vertical ropeway in India.
The ropeway is around 20 kilometers away from the Baba Baidyanath Temple and is around 766-metres-long, while the hill is 392-metres-high.
There are 25 carriages in the ropeway with seating for four people in each.
