
Guwahati: Allaying fears of postponement or cancellation, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on June 5 announced the revised dates for the upcoming civil service examinations in 2020.
According to the revised schedule, both the UPSC Civil Service and the Indian Forest Services (IFS) exams will be held concurrently on October 4. The mains of the Civil Services will be held on January 8, while the mains of the IFS exams will be held on February 28.
The Civil Service preliminary examination, originally scheduled to be held on May 31 was deferred after the Centre introduced nationwide curbs to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others are selected from the Civil Service exams which are held in three stages -- Prelims, Mains, and Interview. This year, the Commission had announced 798 vacancies.
The call to postpone the exam was taken on May 4, during the second phase of the nationwide lockdown that was announced by the Prime Minister during an address to the nation on May 25.
Meanwhile, the UPSC has notified that there will only be a single entrance exam for the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy this year which will be conducted on June 6.
At the same time, the Commission has announced that the Indian Economic Service Exam/ Statistical Service Exam will be conducted on October 16 and a notification for the IES and ISS examination 2020 will be released next week.
Combined Medical Services Examination will be held on October 22, while the Central Armed Police Forces (ACs) Examination is scheduled on December 20.
The UPSC has also announced that the Personality Tests for Civil Services (Mains) Examination, 2019 for remaining candidates, which have also been delayed owing to the nationwide lockdown, will be resumed from July 20.
