Video of Jailed Gangsters Enjoying Booze, Snacks Goes Viral on Social Media

NEW DELHI: A video showing two gangsters consuming alcohol and snacks inside a lockup in Delhi has surfaced on social media. The Delhi police, however, are tight-lipped so far but said they are probing the matter thoroughly.

The two jailed gangsters identified as Rahul Kala and Naveen Bali were arrested in the past in connection with cases related to murders and extortion and were lodged in Mandoli jail in Tihar. They were arrested again earlier this month by the Delhi police's special cell regarding an alleged conspiracy of killing their rival gang member from inside the jail.

A special team of cops took both of them in their custody to grill them and kept them in the lockup for over one week. They remained in the custody of the special team till August 10 and they were further sent back to Mandoli jail.

As per the latest reports, the video is either of Mandoli Jail or the special police cell's lockup. The incident has put on the functioning of the police authority under fire and questions are being raised from various quarters about how the jailed gangsters got the "VIP treatment" inside the lockup.

The police have not confirmed whether the video was shot during the special cell custody or at Mandoli jail.

Delhi Police spokesperson Chinmoy Biswal was quoted as saying, "The video is not substantiated and liquor is not served in police lock-up." Sandeep Goel, the director-general of Tihar Jail has said that the matter will be looked into.
