Guwahati: Vikas Dubey's post-mortem report has revealed that the gangster accused of killing eight policemen in Kanpur died because of "haemorrhage and shock" after being shot at by police earlier this month.

Police had said that Dubey was gunned down by members of UP's Special Task Force (STF) while trying to flee while he was being transported from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh (where he was apprehended after a massive manhunt) to UP.

The dreaded was arrested on July 9 from outside the Mahakal Temple in Ujjain after being on the run since gunning down policemen in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur from rooftops. He was reportedly recognized by a shopkeeper while buying offerings. Vikas Dubey's post-mortem report stated that three bullets pierced through his body and that there were ten injuries.

The first bullet struck his right shoulder and two others pierced his chest on the left side. According to the report, Dubey had sustained injuries on the head, elbow, rib and stomach on the right side of his body.

Meanwhile, Dubey's mysterious death has caused a sensation, with the opposition party leaders claiming that he was killed in a "fake encounter" to protect the identity of the politicians who were his patrons. In its response, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has formed a one-member judicial commission to probe the encounter. The commission headed by retired justice SK Aggarwal has been given two months' time to submit its report.

Meanwhile, two of Dubey's aides, Jaykant Vajpayee and Prashant Shukla, were arrested on Monday for their alleged involvement in the Kanpur encounter. The duo has been accused of helping him escape in three vehicles after the infamous encounter. A first information report (FIR) has been registered against them under relevant sections of the law.
