GUWAHATI: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that there has been a massive response to the newly added Ghibli-style image generation feature in ChatGPT, calling the traction "insane." In a post on micro-blogging site X, Altman pointed out that the demand has been so strong that it has not left much time for his team to rest.
Just two days prior, Altman shared that OpenAI's GPUs were "melting" due to the intense usage of the image generation tool. He stated, "It's super fun seeing people love images in ChatGPT, but our GPUs are melting. We are going to temporarily introduce some rate limits while we work on making it more efficient. Hopefully, it won't be long! ChatGPT's free tier will get three generations per day soon."
In a post on X, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman humorously urged users to "please chill on generating images," emphasizing the need for his team to get some sleep amid the surge in activity.
The blend of the unique style of art of Studio Ghibli and the generating capability of ChatGPT has seen an unprecedented growth in content online, as users have taken ordinary pictures and turned them into fantasy-style artwork similar to the much-loved Ghibli classics like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.
This development has, however, created ethical debate over the utilization of AI technologies based on copyrighted work and whether this would ultimately harm the livelihoods of human creatives working in the creative field.
