105-old centenarian returns to school to take Class 4 exams

Bhageerathi Amma, an 105-year old grandmother and centenarian from Kerala, set an iconic example by becoming the oldest learner of Kerala. She created history by appearing for the 4th standard examination in school on November 19 in Kerala.

Bhageerathi was just 9 years old when she has to quit studies to take care of her younger siblings. Thereafter, in her thirties, she lost her husband and was the only parent left to take care of 4 daughters and 2 sons.

It is said the there is no specific age to start learning. Well, this grandmother has surely proved it! When most people quit studies and people of Bhageerathi’s age resort to bed, Bhageerathi became an iconic example for her desire to learn. She showed utmost eagerness to learn when officials from the Kerala Literacy Mission approached her for the same.

Last year a 96 year old woman from Kerala, Karthyayan Amma made headlines when she was the oldest person at that time to enrol at the Kerala Literacy Mission and subsequently scored 98% marks.
