Delhi: In yet another shocking incident of cybercrime from the National Capital, a 17-year-old boy has been apprehended after being found guilty of heinous cybercrime against a 20-year old woman. The woman, who is a trainee in an air hostess course, complained to the police that she allegedly was stalked, threatened, and harassed on social media by a class 12 student, who wanted sexual favours from her. 

The matter came to light on Wednesday when the woman filed complaints in the police station that she was being by the boy on popular social media handle Instagram, and also complained that the boy sent her vulgar messages on a social media messaging app called Messenger, where he insisted her to have a sexual relationship with him. On further examination, the police found that the accused also mailed her from a fake email address. As per the senior police officer, she stated that she was "extremely harassed" by the alleged email user for about 4-5 days. 

The police, with an expert team, located the boy's whereabouts in about five hours from the time when the complaint was lodged. The boy is a resident of the Krishna Nagar area of Delhi. Read more

The charges against the 20-year-old, based on the complaints registered include IPC Section 354(D) for stalking, IPC Section 506 for punishment for criminal intimidation and 509 words, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, at Jagat Puri police station. 

The  Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Shahdara, R Sathiyasundaram said, "When we analyzed the email ID, it was found that the culprit was using VPN (Virtual Private Network) for accessing the email account." 

"After examining the collected information with the help of technical surveillance and cyber forensic tools, the identity of the alleged profile user was identified and subsequently he was apprehended," he added. 

The phone which was used to operate Instagram and Email was recovered and the boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
