19 Injured In BJP-TMC Clash In Tripura, Section 144 Imposed

New Delhi: At least 19 people, including two police personnel, were injured in a clash between BJP and TMC in Tripura's Khowai district following which section 144 imposed in the area.

So far, in this regard, four people have been arrested and sent judicial custody till November 30.

The incident took place a day before the state civic polls in the state which forced the administration to impose prohibitory orders in wards 13, 14, and 15 of the districts.

An official statement issued late on Thursday said, "To maintain law and order, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Md Sajjad P, in an order issued today, imposed Section 144 in Wards 13, 14 and 15 of Teliamura Municipal Council." This order will remain in force till November 24.

According to Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Subrata Chakraborty, the dispute started at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday in Kalitila area when TMC workers who were protesting reached near a BJP office.

''The supporters of both the parties came face to face, which led to the clash,'' he said.

He further said that TMC workers suddenly attacked BJP supporters who later also retaliated, adding, ''in a bid to disperse the both, police had to used mild force and tear gas shell.''

Chakraborty said that 9 people, including two policemen, were injured in the clash.

''Three cases were registered at Teliampura police station in connection with the incident.

He also asserted that the police have registered a separate case on charges of attempt to murder, voluntarily causing grievous injury and unlawful assembly.

Police said that 5 people including have been arrested and 4 were produced before the court from where they have been sent to judicial custody till November 30.
