23-year-old Unnao Rape Survivor ran 1 km for help while she was set on fire

Unnao: As heart-wrenching, as it may sound but rape victim who was stabbed and burnt alive in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh ran for 1km seeking help with her 90 percent burnt body.

It may be mentioned here that in March this year, the victim filed a case against two men Shivam and Shubham Trivedi for allegedly abducting, raping and also filming the act in December 2018. Following which, Shubham was jailed in connection with the rape case, was released on bail on November 30, 2019.

Immediately after getting bail, Shubham started stalking and threatening her. The victim and her family visited the Bihar police station close to the Sindupur village in Unnao several times but the police did not pay any heed to their repeated complaints.

This Thursday, the victim was on her way to a Rae Bareli court to attend a trial of her rape case when she was abducted by the five men including Shivam and Shubham. Following which the victim was brutally stabbed and set ablaze by the group of men. Villagers of Sindurpur villager witnessed the haunting sight of the victim ablaze running seeking to survive, towards the village for a kilometer before the villagers spotted her.

Villagers called the police and made the victim talk to the police. After a while, the police reached the village to rescue her.

All the five men who have been accused of setting her on fire, including the two accused in her rape case, have been arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police.

After rescuing her, she was rushed to the Community Health Centre, from where she was shifted to the district hospital in Lucknow with 90 percent burns. The Delhi Traffic Police has provided a green corridor from the Delhi airport to Safdarjung Hospital. The victim said to be ‘critical’ is presently under treatment in the plastic surgery burn unit of the said hospital.
