7 Assam Teachers Detected Five New Asteroids Working With NASA Partner IASC

IASC is a partner of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

The seven-member teachers of Assam took part in the event which was organized by IASC under the name of Saptarishi VIPNET (India).

The teachers who are working as citizen scientists are Rajib Ranjan Dhar, Raja Sarkar, Kangkan Kishor Dutta, Kuldeep Sensua, Debasmita Paul, Dakshina Borkotoky Borah, and Deepak Chetry.

Rajib Ranjan Dhar, a teacher of Rabindra Vidyapith ME School in Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district said that they have detected five asteroids and feeling very product that they worked under IASC which is a partner organization of NASA.

Dhar has shared how he completed his study from government school and due to a financial crunch his family couldn't support him in a very good way.

Not only Rajib but other people who have participated in the event have been educated in government schools.

Rajib said that he and his colleagues had been involved in the asteroid search campaign in May and August this year.

"Regarding the future of this campaign, we want to involve more people from Assam, especially the student community. We are very hopeful that all five asteroid detections will come in the provisional discovery list of IASC," Rajib Ranjan Dhar said.
