76-Year-Old COVID-19 Infected Women, Assumed Dead, Wakes Up Before Cremation

The old woman who was considered dead suddenly began to weep and then opened her eyes. Her family, completely taken aback by what unfolded before their eyes, rushed the old woman to the hospital.

Pune- In an unusual incident, a 76-year-old woman who was thought to be dead came to life moments before she was to be cremated as her family members prepared for her final rites. This bizarre incident took place at Mudhale village in Baramati, Maharashtra. 

The woman, identified as Shakuntala Gaikwad, tested positive for Covid-19 just a few days ago. She was at home in isolation but since she was old her condition worsened, and her family decided to transfer her to a hospital in Baramati. 

A private car was used to transport the elderly woman to Baramati on May 10. The family attempted but failed to secure a hospital bed for her in Baramati. The woman passed out and stopped moving as they waited in the vehicle. Assuming that she had died, the family told their relatives about the funeral services. 

The family returned home with the 'supposed' corpse of the old lady and began the process of preparing her for cremation. The woman was put on the bier for her final journey while her family mourned her death.

Meanwhile, the woman was admitted to Baramati's Silver Jubilee Hospital for further care, according to Dr. Sadanand Kale, the hospital's founder. 

India, which is currently under the demonic grasp of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, on Friday registered 3,43,144 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total caseload to 2,40,46,809. 3,980 COVID-induced fatalities have been reported in the last 24 hours taking the total death count to 2,62,317. On December 19, the COVID-19 count in India passed the ten million mark, and in less than six months, it had doubled, surpassing the dreadful landmark of 20 million cases on May 4. While on a positive note, this is the fourth time in the last five days that recoveries have outnumbered daily cases.
