NEW DELHI: At least 857 staff members of the parliament were detected as COVID-19 positive including Vice president Venkaiah Naidu and Rajya Sabha Chairperson.

The parliamentary staff members were found infected with the virus prior to the Budget session of the parliament that is scheduled to start by the end of this month i.e. from 31 January.

According to reports Vice president Venkaiah Naidu is currently under self-isolation in Hyderabad and will continue to remain isolated for seven days.

On Sunday 23 January Naidu's secretariat took to Twitter to share that he is in Hyderabad and tested covid positive therefore isolating himself for a week. The tweet also reads that Naidu advised isolation and covid test for all people who came in contact with him in recent days.

However, this is not the first time that the vice president of the country is found COVID-19 positive he was earlier tested positive and this is the second time.

Just ahead of the Budget session of the parliament a total of 2847 covid tests were undertaken at the Parliament complex and a total of 875 staff members were found as COVID-19 positive.

In concern over the increase in the number of covid positive cases across the country, a final decision is likely to announce on whether the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha of Parliament are going to sit separately through different shifts or will sit simultaneously.

The entire Budget Session will run for more than two months starting from 31st January 2022 and ending by 8 April 2022. Notably, there will be a rough month-long break in between the given period.

On 1st February 2022, the Union budget will be finally displayed and the President will address a joint session of both Upper and Lower houses of the parliament.
