NEW DELHI: A man-eater tigress, believed to have killed at least 21 humans near Dudhwa Tiger Reserve since October 2020, will now spend her life in captivity in Lucknow zoo, officials said.

Forest officials found partially eaten bodies of four people in a span of ten days in June alone, and suspect the tigress to be behind the killings, while the nine-year-old tigress, who was discovered with damaged upper and lower canines, making it difficult to hunt its natural prey, has been kept in a zoo isolation unit for rehabilitation, according to Lucknow's zoo director Ashok Kumar.

The tigress was transferred to Lucknow Zoo after careful investigation by the residents of Majhra Purab, Khairatiya, and the villages adjacent to Khareta beat of Singahi range.

The high-level observation team includes the Deputy Director of the zoo, Dr Utkarsh Shukla, and senior vets, Dr Ashok Kashyap and Dr Brijendra Yadav.

On June 29, the tigress was trapped following the chief wildlife warden's nod to tranquillise the animal.
