Agra: Fire Erupts in Patalkot Express Train Coaches, Injuring Passengers

UTTAR PRADESH: In a distressing incident on a Wednesday afternoon, a fire broke out in two coaches of the Patalkot Express train, resulting in injuries to at least two passengers. The incident occurred in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh as the train was en route from Firozpur Cantonment in Punjab to Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. The blaze engulfed the third and fourth coaches of the train, situated near the engine, at approximately 3:45 PM.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) from the Agra Police Commissionerate, Sonam Kumar, confirmed that two passengers sustained injuries in the fire and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Responding to the emergency, five fire tenders and a forensic team swiftly reached the scene to tackle the situation.

Agra Railway Division's Public Relations Officer, Prashasti Srivastava, reported that the precise cause of the fire remained unknown at that time. She stated, "A fire incident in Patalkot Express has been reported between Bhandai and Jajau in NCR (North Central Railway), Agra Division. Two coaches have been completely burnt. Since two adjacent coaches have also been affected, a total of four coaches have been detached from the train. The situation is under control."

Bhandai station, located approximately 10 kilometers from Agra station, marked the location where the fire began, shortly after the train left for its next station, Jajau. As soon as smoke was detected, railway officials halted the train and initiated the evacuation process to ensure the safety of passengers.

This incident's repercussions extended to the Agra-Dholpur train route, impacting several train services. Numerous trains were brought to a standstill at various stations due to the emergency response and investigations conducted by railway authorities.

The Patalkot Express typically runs its route between Firozpur Cantonment in Punjab and Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. As authorities work to ascertain the cause of the fire and ensure passenger safety, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and preparedness within the transportation sector.
