Air India Bans the Accused of Pee in Flight Incident for 4 Months

NEW DELHI: The pee controversy onboard an international flight belonging to Air India does not seem to end anytime soon as new developments just keep on coming one after the other. The latest one being the extension of the travel ban from one month to four months by the airline.

Shankar Mishra was arrested by police on January 4 following the accusation of an elderly woman that he had peed on her. The incident had taken place in the business class of an international flight coming to New Delhi from New York. The accused had denied doing any such thing and that the lady had peed herself and shifted the blame to her co-passenger.

The airline had put a 30-day ban on the accused as soon as the matter came to light. They had mentioned that they could ban a passenger for a maximum of 30 days without proper consultation with the ministry of civil aviation for any unruly behaviour and after the submission of an internal report on Thursday, they have decided to extend the ban to four months.

The incident itself took several twists and turns as the woman and her supporters wanted severe action against the accused, while the accused and his family continually dismissed what was being told as a lie. It is now almost a month since a formal complaint was lodged with the airline, following which Delhi police arrested him. This incident also led to him losing his position in a well-known brand.

As accusations and counter-accusations keep on piling, this case does not look like it will end anytime soon. Also, the court has not granted bail to the accused, leaving him in police custody. With no evidence as of now to prove him guilty or to verify the statement of the person who put the complaint, this case is just dragging longer with the public as well as the airline waiting eagerly for it to end.
