Guwahati: In less than 24 hours, four Al-Badr militants were killed, while a fifth surrendered at Killora in the neighboring district of Shopian. Earlier, three militants and a soldier were killed in an encounter at Zadoora in Pulwama in South Kashmir on Saturday.

According to IGP Vijay Kumar, Al Badr district commander Shakoor Parray and his associate Suhail Bhat, who had abducted and killed a panch on August 1, were among the four militants killed in the encounter. The other two militants were identified as Zubair Nengroo and Shaki-ul-Jabba.

Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said, three militants, have been killed in Zadoora while one soldier who was critically injured succumbed to the injuries at the Army hospital in Srinagar. With the killing of three militants at Zadoora, seven militants have been killed in the two encounters so far in less than 24 hours. "One AK rifle and two pistols were seized from the encounter site," Kalia further added.

"As the cordon was being laid, the hiding militants opened fire on the forces critically wounding a soldier of Rashtriya Rifles. The soldier was shifted to a medical facility and later succumbed to his injuries. In the gunfight that followed, three militants were killed," an official said.

According to police sources, the operation was launched after specific inputs were received about the presence of militants in the village last night. The identity of the militants at Zadoora is yet to be ascertained.

The militant who surrendered has been identified as Shoiab Ahmed Bhat of Awantipure in Pulwama.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar confirmed that in 2020 more than 150 terrorists have been killed in Kashmir, mostly in south Kashmir, including top 26 terrorist commanders of different terror organizations.
