NEW DELHI: On September 09 the Hindus will be celebrating the Hartalika Teej.

The auspicious festival festival every year observes on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi and is celebrated one month after Hariyali Teej.

According to Hindu calendar this auspicious day is marked on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Bhadrapada.

It will be celebrated with full zeal in Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand.

Date and Timings:

According to the rituals the women will observe the day starting with a fast on September 09 to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to get their blessings and celebrate Hartalika Teej. The tithi will begin at 2:33 am on September 9 and continue till 12:18 am on September 10.

Rituals, Significance, and History:

To worship the goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva the Hindu married women celebrate the Hartalika Teej to wish for a happy married life and prosperity. According to the rituals married women wake up early in the morning they perform the puja after wearing new cloths. Unmarried girls also observe a fast on this day.

Indian mythology tells the story of how Goddess Parvati's father wanted her to marry Lord Vishnu. However, she wanted Lord Shiva to be her husband. Therefore, on the day of the marriage, Goddess Parvati's friends helped her escape to a dense forest to avoid the wedding with Lord Vishnu. There, she prayed to Lord Shiva, and eventually, he recognised her devotion and appeared before her. He accepted Parvati's plea to marry him and eventually tied the knot with her. It is believed that Lord Shiva had accepted Goddess Parvati on the day of Hartalika Teej.
