The Amarnath Yatra which is a 43-day long religious pilgrimage in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir is scheduled to begin this year on 30 June.

The pilgrimage will end on 11 August during the occasion of Raksha Bandhan according to the tradition of Shravan Purnima.

Notably, the online registration for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra will start on Monday 11 April 2022 as informed by the CEO of SASB (Shri Amarnath Shrine Board), Nitishmwar Kumar.

The decision for the dates of the Amarnath Yatra was recently taken during the 41st Board meeting of Shri Amarnath Temple Board in Jammu & Kashmir under the leadership of Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor.

The board's CEO informed that registration will begin in a total of 446 branches of Jammu and Kashmir, Yes Bank, PNB Bank and 100 branches of SBI Bank in different parts of India.

Kumar added this year a huge number of pilgrims are expected for Amarnath Yatra with the number reaching at least 3 lakhs.

Moreover, it was informed that the 14-day long yatra will be completed following all covid related protocols by ensuring the safety of every pilgrim and authorities associated with the maintenance.

Pilgrims will be provided with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) through which the board can track them. Kumar informed that the insurance coverage time for pony handlers has been extended to 1 year and the insurance cover for pilgrims increased from 3 lakh to 5 lakh in 2022.

This time the yatra is organized after a long gap of two years due to the outbreak of deadly covid infection and it was even cancelled after planned because of the major surge in the covid positive cases.

A large section of the devotees of Lord Shiva arrives for the Amarnath Yatra and offer prayer in the Holy Cave therefore the Lieutenant government Manoj Singh has directed all in charge to ensure the smooth functioning of the yatra.
