Amid Flood, Girl Rows Boat To School In Gorakhpur; Video Surfaces On Social Media

GORAKHPUR: A video of a girl rowing a boat in school uniform has been making the rounds on social media. As per reports, the girl is a class XI student who goes to her school daily on a boat daily through the Rapti river in Bahrampur area of the district. The school is about 800 metres far from her house.

The girl Sandhya Sahini (15), who studies at Ayodhya Girls' Inter College, has received appreciation from a large number of people on social media for her courage and dedication towards studies.

Sharing her reaction (after she came to know that her video went viral on social media), Sandhya told media persons that she takes inspiration from many legendary personalities including Indira Gandhi, Kalpana Chawla, PT Usha and Sarojini Naidu and that she wanted to do good in studies so that she becomes capable of giving a good life to her parents and siblings. Sandhya, who has always been focused on studies, is the daughter of a carpenter.

Reports said Sandhya reaches Raj Ghat with her boat and from there she embarks on a tempo to reach her school. As per the girl, they (the school's students) could not attend their classes as the school was closed for months in view of the coronavirus pandemic situation and now they are facing the problem of floods in Rapti. She does not want to miss any more classes for which she has decided to go to the school daily no matter what. Sandhya does not take any tuition and thus is totally dependent on the school for her lessons.
