Andhra Pradesh- Huge crowds gathered at Kurnool's district Kairuppala village in Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of Ugadi, the Telegu New Year in the middle of the massive spike in the cases of COVID 19 reported from all over the country. At the time when the second wave of the novel coronavirus, which is considered to be deadlier than ever before, is affecting India as the cases is skyrocketing and spiraling beyond control with every passing day, the people of Kurnool's district Kairuppala village openly flaunt COVID-19 protocols like wearing masks and following adequate social distancing. As a part of this Ugadi tradition, hundreds of people divide themselves into groups and throw cow dung cakes at each other. 

Udagi is considered to be the first day of the new year in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana. 

In a similar incident to this one, the people from the Kallur, another village from the same district gathered for a three-day event celebrating as a procession of bulls perambulating the local Chowdeshwari temple. This tradition is linked with celebrating agricultural prosperity. Even donkeys are dressed up during this procession and crowds of people rush through the farms as a part of this celebration. There were giant wheels and joy rides to keep the people entertained in the venue which is only a few meters away from the temple. 

These crowded events with major COVID-19 protocol violations came to light during the time where in the last 24 hours, 626 fresh cases from Kurnool were reported which is the second-highest after Chittor district with 835 cases. The state of Andhra Pradesh has been reporting 5000 cases of coronavirus on a daily basis. 

Meanwhile, on Friday, India recorded the highest single-day spike with 2,17,353 fresh COVID with 1,185 deaths reported in the last 24 hours pushing the country's death count to 1,74,308. The total tally of active caseloads in the country amounts to over 1.42 crore. This is the sixth straight day where more than 1.5 lakh cases were reported in this country.
