Amit Shah To Felicitate Weightlifting Champion Mirabai Chanu Today

New Delhi: Amit Shah will felicitate weightlifting champion Mirabai Chanu today for her performance in weightlifting after she brought a silver medal home during her participation in Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The weightlifter from Manipur will be honoured on the occasion of the 51st Raising Day of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD).

"This is a small gesture by the BPR&D to welcome her (Saikhom Mirabai Chanu) to the fraternity on behalf of the Indian police," as an official letter from the home ministry read.

After her Olympic win, she was appointed as an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in her home state, Manipur.

Mirabai Chanu had opened India's achievement account in the recent Tokyo Olympics 2020 after she won a silver medal in the 49 kg category of weightlifting.

The official statement from the home ministry also stated that trophies and medals of excellence will be given away by Home MInister Amit Shah to the winner state and central police organisations and forces during the event. Seven authors who wrote on policing subjects in Hindi will also be awarded.

Founded in August 1970, the Bureau of Research and Development is an organisation which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In other news, the Centre is likely to sign a tripartite Karbi Peace Accord in New Delhi on Saturday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with the representatives of Karbi outfits are expected to be present at the meeting in which the accord is likely to be signed.

According to the latest information, the accord, which is likely to be signed at the North block office of the ministry of home affairs (MHA) at 4 pm on Saturday evening, is going to be signed with three units of Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), United People's Liberation Army (UPLA), People's Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) and Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT).
