NAGAON: The festival of Pran Pratishta of Mritunjay temple in Puranigudan, Nagaon will be ending today which commenced on 22nd February.

On this auspicious and spiritual occasion, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister visited Assam today to participate in all the rituals and the religious occasion of the festival to take blessing and goodwill from the Almighty.

The Maha Mrityunjay Temple in Puranigudan, Nagaon is now quite renowned for the record of constructing the 126 feet tall Shiva linga which is the largest Shiva Linga in the world.

The construction commenced in the year 2003 which was initiated by Acharya Bhrigu Giri Maharajas this was his place where he used to meditate.

As per the mythological beliefs of the Maharaj, during the historic period, Shukracharya, the guru of the Daityas or Asuras performed religious rituals where the temple is situated.

The devotees are allowed to worship in the temple from the 26th of February.

According to a salient priest around two fifty priests, all the way from Tamil Nadu have participated to perform all the rituals of the ceremony.

The General Secretary of the temple committee, Jitu Goswami said that it is a great thing that eventually the dreams of the founder of the temple, Acharya Bhrigu Giri Maharaj has been fulfilled as it was his long and earnest wish for this temple. He also thanked everyone for the contribution to build this phenomenal temple and wished everyone's presence in the temple's inaugural event.

He also added that the authorities of the temple are quite grateful as the honourable Home Minister arrived to take part in the rituals. He also mentioned that huge pavilion (mandaps) are created aside from the temple to accomplish the rituals with 108 kundas and inside the pavilion, all the kundas were placed for all the priest to perform the holy rituals.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, Assam minister arrived at the spot on Tuesday eve to check the arrangements before Amit Shah's visit at Maha Mrityunjay temple.
