NEW DELHI : PM Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family members of the people who lost their lives on Wednesday in Andhra Pradesh. The incident took place while N Chandrababu Naidu, the former CM and Telugu Desam Party leader was addressing his roadside show. 

Eight people including two women fell into an open drainage canal in Kandukuru town of Andhra Pradesh's Nellora district. A rush took place as soon as Naidu's convoy arrived at the region. The gathering was massive and everyone rushed to get a glimpse of the chief. 

As per the statements of local authorities, a cement railing cracked as a result of which several people fell into a open canal. All of them died after succumbing major injuries. 

Apart from that, eight other people were severely injured during the TDP event in Kandukuru. Narendra Modi tweeted from his individual tweeter handle and expressed his grief for the kin of the deceased. 

He announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the deceased's damily members, and an amount of Rs 50,000 for the injured ones. He prayed for their speedy recovery in his tweet. The unfortunate situation occurred during Naidu's rally in Andhra Pradesh. 

The injured people were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment. As per the police reports, a stampede-like situation took place at the canal after which the episode occurred. 

Naidu's son and TDP national general secretary tweeted after the incident, and expressed his grief for the workers. He stated that death of the TDP workers is a huge loss for the party as well. He further assured that the injured ones will be treated under proper supervisions. 

Meanwhile, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu stated that, an amount of Rs 10 lakhs ex gratia has been decided for the deceased's family members through the NTR trust.
