Arnab Goswami, face of Republic TV, says every case against him is "fake"

Guwahati: The Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, who has been accused of spreading hatred through his TV channel, was interrogated by Mumbai Police on June 10, 2020, associated with the two FIRs filed against him. He called the cases against him as fabricated and fake.

"Every case against me is fabricated, it is fake" stated Arnab before he entered Mumbai's NM Joshi Marg police station for the interrogation. The charges are associated giving a communal angle to the lynching of two Hindu seers in Palghar on April 16 and a protest outside the Bandra railway station by stranded migrant workers on April 14.

The Republic TV Editor-in-Chief was booked under Sections 120B, 153, 153A, 295A, 500 and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The FIRs that have been registered against Goswami were filed under Section 120B and are related to a 'criminal conspiracy".

Section 153 implies "Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot" and Section 153A is 'promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony'. Section 295A is related to 'deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs'.

Section 500 indicates 'punishment for defamation' and Section 505 (2) is regarding the 'statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes'. Earlier he was interrogated for almost 12.5 hours. Republic TV's CFO S Sundaram was also questioned inside the police station at the same time for about three to four hours.

While talking to the reporters outside the police station he added: "All these cases have been filed against Republic by the Sonia Gandhi team, Vadra, and Congress."
