Assam Chief Minister Speaks For Nationalist Media at NBF Conclave

NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, advocated for nationalist media in a speech made today at the NBF News Media summit in Delhi.

According to the chief minister, media organisations should defend the interests of the country. Also, neutrality goes out the window when it comes to matters of national interest. Himanta Biswa Sarma also stated that India has a historical obligation to protect persecuted Hindus from other regions of the world when discussing the CAA issue.

In response to a question about whether Assamese citizens support his administration's 'madrassa modernization' initiative, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that despite the closure of 700 madrassas in the state, Assamese citizens, including those from the Muslim community, have supported his administration wholeheartedly.

As many as 40 PFI members have also been detained in Assam after the recent crackdown, mentioned the chief minister.

In the first edition of NBF News Media Sumit, the opportunities and difficulties related to the current media landscape and concentrated on the theme "Future of News" were explored. Key points that came up during the event included the upcoming technologies and trends of the sector.

The chief minister added that with the frequent visits to the Muslim-dominated areas of the state, he has noticed a euphoria and desire of making their sons and daughters doctors and engineers.

The chief minister also stated that India has a responsibility towards every Hindu in the world and is the only address for Hindus in India.

Commenting on the media industry, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said there are media outlets in the country who are supporting the views of the country, hence the country needs media who irrespective of the political party, support the cause of the country and should not be influenced by the advent of western media.

Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the Chief Managing Director of Pride East also participated in the event as a significant panellist and discussed the difficulties that news broadcasters confront, particularly with regard to the logistics of operations. She is also the wife of the chief minister of Assam.
