GUWAHATl: A 22 years old woman from Dibrugarh in Assam has registered a complaint that she was forced into marriage after being promised job opportunities in a different state of the country.

The incident took place in the Jind district of Haryana. The woman from Dibrugarh mentioned in her complaint that she was acquainted with a woman named Laxmi in Dibrugarh itself. She mentioned that she was the wife of one Baljeet and took her to Jind in Haryana under the pretext of finding a job for her. But later sold her to one Kavita, who was the wife of one Harinivas from the Shivalik Colony of the region. He also mention that she was sold for Rs 25000. Thereafter Kavita forces her to marry one Sandeep alias Kala on June 3.

The victim also mentioned that she was somehow able to flee from the control of the accused and lodged a complaint with the police and a case was registered. The investigating officer of the case mentioned that based on the complaint of the victim, a case was registered against Laxmi, Kavita and Sandeep under the charges of abduction, human trafficking, etc. An investigation has also been started in this regard.

In a separate incident that happened about a month ago Sarmistha Som, a woman in her 40s, killed her mother-in-law with a frying pan in South Delhi's Neb Sarai neighborhood. According to local police, the 86-year-old mother-in-law was suffering from arthritis, which may have frustrated the daughter-in-law or made her tired of caring for the mother. Since 2014, Surjit Som (51), his wife Sarmishta Som (48), and their 16-year-old daughter have resided in Swastik Residency in Neb Sarai. The pair is originally from Kolkata, but the husband's mother was living alone in West Bengal at the time. Later, he moved his mother into a flat in front of his own. Surjit and his daughter verified Sarmishta's strained connection with his mother-in-law.
