Australian PM Cooks Modi's Favourite ''Khichdi'' To Celebrate New Trade Deals With India

New Delhi: In a bid to celebrate the new trade deal with India, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Saturday posted a picture on Instagram, wherein, he was seen cooking khichdi which is the favourite dish of his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On April 2, both the countries signed an economic cooperation and trade agreement under which Canberra will ensure tax-free entry of more than 95 per cent of Indian goods such as clothing, leather, jewellery and sports-related products into their market.

The agreement – inked by Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal and Australian minister for trade, tourism and investment Dan Tehan in a virtual ceremony – is likely to be implemented in about four months. Modi and Morrison were also present during the virtual ceremony.

Taking to the Instagram, Morrison wrote, ''To celebrate our new trade agreement with India, the curries I chose to cook for curry night tonight are all from my dear friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gujurat province, including his favourite Khichdi.

Referring to his family, he said, "Jane, girls and mum all approve." The post along with the photo has received more than 12,000 "likes" and more than 900 comments.

On many occasions, PM Modi has expressed his interest in khichdi in several interviews.
