Baby on board dies in Patna to Delhi SpiceJet flight, doctor confirms heart ailment

An infant, suffering from a heart ailment, is reported to have died on board a SpiceJet flight. The flight was heading from Patna to Delhi and the infant, a six-month-old baby girl, was accompanied by her parents to the national capital. As stated by the parents, they were carrying the baby to Delhi for her heart treatment.

As soon as the Delhi police received information on a baby dying on the SpiceJet flight, they rushed to the spot to find the baby dead, as declared by the medical team present in the airport. Deputy commissioner of police (Delhi airport) Sanjay Bhatia states that as per the information received by them, the baby died while travelling through the SpiceJet flight SG 8481.

DCP Bhatia said, “Our teams reached the airport and found that the child, a native of Begusarai in Bihar, was suffering from congenital heart disease. She had a small hole in her heart and she was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi.”

The police officer further added that the parents of the baby are suspected to be involved in no foul play.

With the emergency situation occurred inside the flight, the crew of the Patna-Delhi flight requested for a priority landing for the baby and her parents at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and on their request, a priority landing too was arranged by the airport authority.

A statement released by the airline authority states, “Doctors on board attended the child. Priority landing was approved, aircraft landed safely and as requested medical facilities were made available on arrival. On arrival, the doctor declared the infant dead.”

It further adds that although the emergency priority landing was arranged for the baby, the airline or the crew were not informed about the baby’s state of health by her parents.
