BENGALURU: A horrific accident took place in the streets of the capital of Karnataka in the morning hours of Tuesday at around 10:30 AM. A woman and her two-year-old toddler were crushed to death when an under-construction pillar crashed and pinned them down on the street.

According to reports, a lady named Tejaswani was travelling with her husband Lohith on a motorcycle. Their twin children, a son and a daughter were also onboard the vehicle as they were travelling through the Hennur Main Road in Bengaluru on the morning hours of Tuesday. An under-construction pillar of the Bengaluru Metro system crashed down on them.

The deceased woman was aged 35 and worked at the Manyata Tech Park while her two-year-old son named Vihan was accompanying them. That is when a construction pillar of the metro line along Nagawara crashed to the ground with the two-wheeler under it. The husband Lohith and their daughter escaped with minor injuries.

They were rushed to the Altius Hospital which is located near the location of the incident. But they were soon pronounced dead by the hospital authorities. While the reason for the child's death was mentioned to be head injuries, the same for the mother was mentioned to be internal bleeding.

Reportedly the husband, Lohith works in Vijaynagar and is an engineer by profession. The family originally hails from Gadang but is currently settled in Hennur. Police had mentioned that they were on their way to drop Tejaswini at her workplace when this mishap took place and killed the mother and son.

The police authority has mentioned that all construction work has been halted and an enquiry is now in place after a complaint was registered to find the reason. While the chief minister has mentioned a detailed enquiry, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has announced financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the family members.
