Bhutan's King Wangchuck to Commence Eight-Day Visit to India Tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Bhutan's monarch, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, is embarking on an eight-day visit to India, commencing on November 3. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disclosed that this visit is poised to be a crucial moment for reviewing and advancing the "exemplary" partnership shared by India and Bhutan.

During his visit, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is scheduled to meet with India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to deliberate on various aspects of the close-knit India-Bhutan relations. Additionally, the monarch will engage with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, along with other senior officials of the Indian government.

The MEA officially stated, "The King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, accompanied by senior officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan, will be on an official visit to India from November 3 to 10." This visit extends beyond New Delhi and encompasses the Indian states of Assam and Maharashtra.

Both nations share a profound friendship and cooperation, characterized by a robust foundation of mutual understanding and trust. The upcoming visit aims to foster these unique ties and examine the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation, extending across diverse sectors.

India and Bhutan's longstanding relationship exemplifies their unwavering commitment to one another, and the visit of King Jigme Khesar Namgye.l Wangchuck is poised to further fortify these bonds of friendship.

Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, born on February 21, 1980, ascended to the throne as the Druk Gyalpo, or Dragon King, following his father's abdication. The transition occurred on December 9, 2006, signifying a new era in Bhutan's monarchy. A public coronation ceremony commemorating his reign took place on November 9, 2008, coinciding with a significant milestone - the centenary of Bhutan's monarchy. 

On the day of his visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will host King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and his accompanying entourage for a dinner in Kaziranga.
