GUWAHATI: On Thursday 13 January Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to inform that the government of West Bengal has assured all the support and aid in relation to the derailment of Binakar-Guwahati Express.

The Bikaner-Guwahati Express Derailment that occurred on Thursday has led to the death of 9 people and more than 45 people travelling on the train have succumbed to severe injuries.

An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those who receive grievous injuries and Rs 25,000 for those who suffer simple injuries.

The train mishap took place in the area of Moynaguri town that comes under Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal.

Soon after the huge mishap CM Sarma discussed the matter with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee and she assured for all possible needs and updates in connection with the situation.

It is likely that most of the victims are from Assam as the train on that day was heading towards the capital city Guwahati from West Bengal.

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee said that she will be providing all the updates regarding the ongoing situation and also told to CM Sarma that the injured people will receive all possible medical treatments needed for their recovery.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through his tweet on Thursday thanked Miss Banerjee for her concern and support to the victims in Binakar-Guwahati Express Derailment.

Meanwhile, the Railway Minister tweeted informing about the accident and the condition of the train during the derailment.

According to updates provided by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, a number of 12 coaches of the Binakar-Guwahati Express train went off the rail lines and some of the coaches overturned during the time of the derailment.

A high-level inquiry has been ordered by the Railway department and the North East Frontier Railway (NRF) looked after the rescue operation of the derailment incident.
