Birbhum Violence: BJP Leader Roopa Ganguly Breaks Down In Parliament

NEW DELHI: On Friday 25 March, the Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Roopa Ganguly from West Bengal broke down with tears while responding to the mass killing in West Bengal's Birbhum district.

The MP from West Bengal stated that the situation of the state is getting worsened day by day and insisted on President's rule in West Bengal.

During her speech in Rajya Sabha on Friday, Ganguly said that West Bengal is no longer inhabitable as mass killings are happening in the region and people are leaving their houses due to fear.

Earlier, the MP had moved a zero-hour notice in Rajya Sabha regarding the massive violence that took place in Birbhum of West Bengal.

On Tuesday 22 March, a mob allegedly set ablaze at least 8 houses in the Rampurhat location of the Birbhum district after Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Shiekh was brutally murdered.

In a horrific incident, a huge number of people residing in the Rampurhat area were burned to death and many others left their homes. To investigate the matter closely, a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was registered requesting the central agency to launch an inquiry.

On Wednesday 23 March, the court took cognizance of the case and on Friday an order was issued by the Calcutta High Court directing the West Bengal Police to hand over the case to the government agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The chief minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee on Thursday 24 March had visited the affected region in Birbhum and met the family members of the deceased.

She interacted with the family members and relatives of those who lost their lives in the massive fire on Tuesday and assured all possible support. Banerjee stated that she had never imagined such an inhuman act could take place in modern Bengal.

The West Bengal CM and TMC chief said that the police will make sure that the culprits behind the Birbhum mass killings are served with the punishment they deserve and the affected people get justice.
