Bizzare! Govt School In Bihar Provides Sanitary Pads to Boys, Probe Ordered

Patna: Halkori Sah High School, a co-ed government school in the district's Manjhi block gave sanitary napkins to boy's students which were intended for adolescent girl students.

The headmaster of the school discovered these inconsistencies in the use of funds under the scheme. According to Ajay Kumar Singh, District Education Officer, "the headmaster reported to the competent authority that at least seven boys of the school were reportedly granted monies (Rs. 150 each annually) for sanitary napkin to students during the 2016-17 school year" (DEO).

"A two-member team has been formed to investigate the case," the DEO told media on the basis of the committee's conclusions, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the erring public workers. "Within four days, the committee will present its report."

In February 2015, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar declared that girls in government schools would receive free sanitary napkins in an effort to reduce dropout rates and promote health and cleanliness.

Schoolgirls in classes VIII to X are given Rs 150 per year to buy sanitary napkins for personal use under the Mukhyamantri Kishori Swasthya Karyakram plan. The state government spends around Rs 60 crore on this every year. The scheme benefits around 37 lakh girls in government schools.

A few days ago Kumbalangi, in Kerala's Ernakulam district, has been designated as the country's first napkin-free village.

According to reports, more than 5,000 menstruation cups have been delivered to girls and women, who have been trained for three months by volunteers on how to use and benefit from them.

"Avalkayi" campaign " (for her). Kumbalangi is a role model for all communities in the country says the organizers.
