CBI Raids Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's Residence

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrived at Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's residence in connection with the investigation into the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy.

Miffed over the development, Sisodia expressed his dissatisfaction, however, he welcomed the CBI team and assured them that he will support cooperation with the probe.

''CBI has come. They are welcome. We are extremely honest. Making the future of millions of children.

It is very unfortunate that those who do good work in our country are harassed like this. That is why our country has not yet become number-1,'' he tweeted.

Notably, CBI has raided 21 different places in Delhi-NCR in the Excise Policy case including the residence of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

Commenting on the same, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that the whole world is discussing the education and health model of Delhi.

''They (Central government) want to stop this. That is why the health and education ministers of Delhi are being raided and arrested. Whoever tried to do good work in 75 years was stopped. That's why India was left behind,'' he was quoted as saying by the media.

Kejriwal further said that he won't stop good works in Delhi, adding, ''On the day, when America's largest newspaper NYT has appreciated the Delhi education model with Manish Sisodia's picture, the same day his house has been raided.''

Speaking on the same line, Kejriwal also welcomed the CBI and said, ''Will fully cooperate. Earlier too many investigations and raids were done but nothing came out. Still, nothing will come out.''

Interestingly, the LG had recommended a CBI inquiry on the basis of a report by the Chief Secretary of Delhi which was sent to the LG on July 8th. In this report, questions were raised on the excise policy implemented last year.

It was alleged in the report that the new policy violated the Delhi Excise Act and Delhi Excise Rules. Apart from this, it is also being alleged that the government has suffered a loss of Rs 144 crore due to waiving the license fee of liquor sellers, and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia as Excise Minister has ignored these provisions.

It is being also said that going against the excise policy, contracts for selling liquor were given to the liquor manufacturing company despite knowing the fact that the liquor manufacturer and supplier company cannot be given contracts to sell liquor, 30 crore rupees were returned to a liquor contractor after not getting a liquor shop, whereas according to the rules, this amount should have gone to the treasury of the government.
